Weekend Retreats & Summer Camp

2008 Schedule & Information      Application form (PDF)
(will open new window)

The Weekend Retreats are held ten times a year and take place once a month. People ages 8 into adulthood with developmental disabilities are eligible for these recreational weekend camps.  Formatted to be a "mini-camp", the weekend retreats are staffed with a ration of 3: 1 and are held at different locations around the city and the Mid-South.  They start on Friday evenings at 7pm and end on Sunday afternoons at 12pm.

The weekends will sometime include community participation activities such as trips to the mall, zoo, and other public forums.  Staff and volunteers supervise all campers as they participate in arts and crafts, music, group games, sports and community outings.  Registration each month is on a first come first serve basis. Cost for Services

Summer Camp

Summer Camp is divided into two weeks in the summer, usually in July and August. Both camps are residential, meaning campers do not go home during the week long camps. Direct Care Counselors are present at a ratio of 3:1 in order to maintain safety and provide campers with individualized attention. Each year, themes are chosen and the week centers around activities associated with the theme. Campers participate in a variety of recreational activities. Registration starts in May and is on a first come first serving basis. Cost for Services

In order to participate in the camp program, clients must have a developmental disability or delay. One-on-one clients are accepted and the minimum requirement is 6 years of age. Siblings are welcome to attend both the summer camps and the weekend retreats.

Personal Assistance

These providers are trained in areas of physical management and mealtime challenges as well as other basic provider skills to help individuals through providing more personal services such as bathing and dressing. These individuals provide more then just "sitting" services and are often used on a daily or regular basis to help the family in specific care taking. Cost for Services

Companions/Mentors

A lot more families are requesting this kind of services today. Parents and caretakers ask for a provider that can take their family member out into the community to places such as the library or to the mall. Some families request that a provider just come to spend time with their individual through reading and talking to them at the home. Many of our clients are children and teenagers and so we are often asked to supply a provider who can act as a mentor to their child. Cost for Services

Community Participation

This new program will offer individuals the opportunity to build relationships and natural supports within the community. It will also provide opportunities to experience and participate in community exploration, leisure activities, hobbies, and community events, etc.
