The Arc of the Mid-South’s 2010 March Madness Kick-Off, Friday, March 5th at the Church Health Center Wellness, was well attended. After rendering remarks, Interim Shelby County Mayor Joe Ford presented a joint proclamation to Executive Director, Carlene Leaper and Board President, Merle Smith. In addition, City Council Chairman Harold Collins presented a resolution proclaiming March 2010 as National Disability Awareness Month throughout Memphis. The audience included staff, community participants and representatives from other agencies including the Tennessee Division of Human Services. The highlight of the day came in the form of moving testimonials about the Arc’s services and support from Kay Catterton, Merle Smith and Velma Reed, all parents of children with disabilities and members of the Arc. We'll also be having a Job Readiness Workshop for high school juniors and seniors in the Memphis area on Thursday, March 11 and Friday, March 12. The workshop will cover interviewing skills, goal setting, communication, and much more. The second day of the event will be devoted to a career fair. This event will be at Anointed Temple of Praise from 8:00am - 1:00pm each day. Students must be registered to attend.
